Hi there! I hope you are enjoying the hustle and bustle of the last few days before Christmas. I personally love it...in the way that it is a part of that feeling...you know what I mean. It's getting closer...only 5 more sleeps!
Today I wanted to give you a quick tutorial on how to use
Sizzix and
Tim Holtz dies in your Cuttlebug. It's entirely possible and if you've passed up on these fabulous elements because you didn't have the right machine...well, maybe you do.
Sizzix dies will work in both the Cuttlebug and the
Big Shot!
I have two projects to share with you!
OK, so here we go!
For my project, here are the main tools I used.
Tim Holtz Scrollwork edge die
Tim Holtz Elegant Flourishes die
Sizzix Snowflakes 3 die
Cuttlebug
2 "B" plates
Bo Bunny Midnight Frost 6x6 paper pad
I thought I would show a photo of the Scroll work edger die. You can see the design in the black foam. This foam is quite thick and hides the blade, and it will compress quite a bit, enabling you to cut up to 6 sheets of cardstock and 8 sheets of designer paper!
You will want to place your paper design side up on the "B" plate.
Your die will be placed "blade" side down on the paper. While it is an edger, you can place it at any point, however, I placed mine near the edge to conserve paper!
Then you will place your second "B" plate on top of the die, and run it through.
You will notice the white "A" plate is not included in the sandwich, because the dies are about the same thickness as the "A" plate, they make up the difference in the size of the sandwich.
What a gorgeous edge! Now, I want to cut some snowflakes!
I place the scroll cut piece on the B plate, then the snowflake die and then the second B plate.
Here's the finished card!
After I cut out the snowflakes I adhered the dark blue panel to acetate, and placed gems in the centre of each snowflake (on the acetate) and along the scroll work edge. I popped the panel up on foam tape over a light snowflake pattern from the same pad. I tied the ribbon around the edge and mounted the entire section on blue card stock and called it done! The sentiment is from Warm Winter Wishes by Flourishes and is cut with the small Labels 4 die. Here's a closer look;
Now..I since I used the "negative" on the previous card I still had two snowflakes left over, so I made another card!
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black
This time I decided to cut a flourish in Tim Holtz's Grungeboard. Tim's
Grungeboard is a softer, more plyable chipboard and it cuts beautifully with the dies! Think of all the chipboard shapes you could cut yourself! I sprayed the flourish liberally with glimmer mist and while it dried, I ran the designer paper through the Cuttlebug with the snowflake embossing folder. I sewed snowflake buttons to the snowflakes from the first card, and attached them to the flourish with glue dots. The sentiment was stamped and the flourish attached with glue dots finished it off! Here's a close up of the fabulous shimmer!
That's all I have for you today! I hope the next time you'll give these fabulous dies a second look! And if you grab them before the end of the month you'll get free shipping if your order tops $50.00*!
